On Communication

Communication problems cause frustration, inhibition and even shame when they interfere with work and social interactions.

I have always appreciated the power of communication and how the voice represents the whole person. It is gratifying to help people find that voice, whether it be related to a problem with the larynx itself, an articulation problem, or to the loss of the communication a person enjoyed before suffering a stroke.

The caregivers who live with people who have communication problems suffer as well. Counseling family members is a quintessential part of helping people cope with what can be a long-term problem.
